More than $175,000 in grant money has been awarded this week in the 90th District to support fire companies and emergency medical services (EMS). The grants will be used for various purposes such as building projects, equipment purchase or repair, training, and debt reduction. The announcement was made by Rep. Paul Schemel (R-Franklin), who emphasized the importance of these funds in supporting first responders without using tax dollars.

"The Fire and Emergency Medical Services Grant Program is a vital resource that supports our local firefighters and EMTs," said Rep. Schemel. "Our communities are well served by these dedicated individuals who answer the call at all times."

The grant program is administered by the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency and the Office of the State Fire Commissioner, with all funding coming from the proceeds generated by slot machine gaming. This ensures that the grants do not rely on taxpayer money but rather on the revenue generated by the gaming industry.

Among the recipient companies in the 90th District are Blue Ridge Volunteer Fire & Rescue Squad, MMP&W Fire Co., Mont Alto Ambulance Association, Mont Alto Volunteer Fire Department, Greencastle Rescue Hose Co., South Mountain Volunteer Fire & Ambulance, and Waynesboro Ambulance Squad. These organizations will receive grants ranging from $13,061 to $28,979, depending on their specific needs.

The grants will enable these first responder organizations to enhance their capabilities and better serve their communities. Whether it's purchasing new equipment, conducting necessary training, or addressing existing debt, these funds will have a significant impact on the effectiveness and efficiency of their operations.

This funding announcement comes at a crucial time when first responders are facing increasing demands and challenges. By providing financial support to these organizations, the grant program recognizes the invaluable service they provide in protecting and saving lives.

The grants awarded in the 90th District demonstrate the commitment of the Pennsylvania government to prioritize the safety and well-being of its citizens. Rep. Schemel and the state legislature have worked diligently to ensure that first responders have the necessary resources to carry out their crucial work.

As the grants are distributed, the local fire companies and EMS organizations express their gratitude for the support they have received. The Blue Ridge Volunteer Fire & Rescue Squad, MMP&W Fire Co., Mont Alto Ambulance Association, Mont Alto Volunteer Fire Department, Greencastle Rescue Hose Co., South Mountain Volunteer Fire & Ambulance, and Waynesboro Ambulance Squad are all appreciative of the grants that will enable them to better serve their communities.

The Fire and Emergency Medical Services Grant Program continues to be a valuable initiative that provides essential funding to support the tireless efforts of first responders. By investing in their capabilities, Pennsylvania ensures that its communities are well protected and prepared for any emergency situation.
